When I was a freshman in high school I had been friends with a group of girls that could be very nice most of the time. I always used to try and be like them. Then, one day, one of the girls tried to gang up on me and say I was talking about each one of them behind their backs. I felt really bad and my feelings were hurt because I never said those things about those girls. I tried to become friends with them again and then I realized that I shouldn’t try and be friends with anyone who was going to treat me so badly.

I decided that I shouldn’t try and be someone I’m not. I shouldn’t have to prove to someone else that I can be a certain type of person. I wouldn’t be happy with myself if I was pretending to be someone I’m not. At the end of the day, I learned I should never be someone I’m not to make “friends”. Girls can be very two-faced and they always seem to start stuff between other girls. I’ve always been a very caring and trustworthy person and when those girls tried to attack me with their words, I was very shocked. I always seem to be the person who cares too much. Even with the people who don’t seem to care at all about me.

Even though I always seem to be too sensitive and still get hurt, I know now to stand up for myself. I never let anyone run over me. Although those girls were so mean to me, I know at the end of the end of the day that real friends don’t treat you like that. If I was asked if I would change anything about that experience, I would say no. Because the only way I learn is through experience. Even though I got my feelings hurt I believe that was a very important lesson that I needed to learn.

I believe that what goes around comes around, so one day those girls will get what they deserve. What I want you to learn by reading this is, don’t sacrifice your personality to impress the wrong people. Your real friends and people that actually want the best for you would only want you to be yourself. So never worry about the opinions of those who don’t matter. Just like a saying says, “the ones who mind don’t matter, and the ones who matter don’t mind.” Always be yourself and never let someone affect you in a negative way. You’ll never be happy if you aren’t being true to yourself. And some lessons you need to learn on your own. You are, after all, your own best friend and teacher.
